How can you make a line shorter without touching it? Draw a line larger beside it.

A band saw blade, just like any other power saw, requires tension to make straight and consistent cuts. This is particularly true for thicker slabs or denser woods. For a carbon-steel blade, the recommended tension is between 15,000 and 20,000 PSI.

Bandsaw wide work. The tablesaw's cutting capacity limits the thickness of strips to approximately 3 1/4". At the top end of the range, the blade can become a bit scary.

Kickback is virtually non-existent, but the motion of the blade tends not to push the work-piece against its worktable. Don't push too hard. Pushing too hard will cause the blade to move to one side or another, creating an irregular cut.

To stabilize the cut, use the back of your blade. Bandsaw blades leave a rough trail. You can smoothen the surface by gently twisting the workpiece until the back of your blade runs along one side.
