While it is often a good idea to replace a dull blade by a newer one, you may find that the best value comes from simply sharpening an existing blade rather than replacing it. A typical rule of thumb is to have your blade sharpened at least twice before changing it completely.

The maximum height (or thickness) that can be cut with a resaw is called the resaw capacity. If you are a small furniture maker, 14 inches is the minimum size for a bandsaw. 16 inches is more ideal. For larger jobs, you might need a machine that is 18'' or 20". For versatility, make sure to have a minimum height for resaws of 12''.
